What is Jumbo-Laya?

Jumbo-Laya is a nine month mystery Block of the Month quilting program designed by Gudrun Erla. Each month, you create one bold 32 inch jumbo block named after a different place in Louisiana. The design is revealed on release day, keeping the experience fun and motivating.

On the 4th Tuesday of each month, a new PDF pattern and instructional video are added to your account so you can sew along at your own pace.

Big blocks mean faster cutting, quicker piecing, and visible progress in a single afternoon. Each block stands beautifully on its own, whether you use it for a personal project, a gift, or something meaningful to share. The size also gives you versatility because you can put 4 blocks together for a lap quilt, 6 for a full size or all 9 for a king size quilt.

Designed with the NICU in Mind

Jumbo-Laya blocks were inspired in part by the need for donation quilts in NICU centers. Each 32 inch block is intentionally sized so a single block can be used or tweaked to fit the requirements for NICU quilts.

That means one afternoon of sewing can result in a finished quilt that brings warmth and comfort to a premature baby and their family. You can use your favorite fabrics, work through your scraps, or create multiple blocks to donate throughout the year.

These are the recommended tools for the Jumbo-Laya Block of the Month program. You do not need every tool to participate, but they will make cutting faster, improve accuracy, and help you get the most out of the Stripology techniques used throughout the program.
